This is arguably the main difference with PUBG. In Fortnite you will have to use objects to protect yourself and / or attack. So the stairs, the walls are as many means to use to avoid the fire of your enemies or to be able to flush them out.
The stairs will allow you for example to attack your enemies in height. You will find them all the more easily as they will most of the time be surrounded by walls and they will not see you coming.
